Kürtőskalács recepe🇭🇺

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Activate the yeast:
In a small bowl, mix warm milk, a pinch of sugar, and yeast. Let it rest for 10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Make the dough:
In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, lemon zest, and vanilla. Add the egg, melted butter, and yeast mixture. Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let it rise for 1 hour, or until doubled.
  3. Prepare the mold:
Wrap rolling pins or cylindrical oven-safe objects (like foil-covered cans) with parchment paper and lightly grease them.
  4. Shape the dough:
Roll the dough out into a long rectangle. Cut into 1-inch wide strips and wrap around the prepared cylinder, slightly overlapping. Roll it gently to flatten the dough evenly.
  5. Butter and sugar:
Brush each wrapped dough with melted butter and roll in granulated sugar (plus cinnamon, if using).
  6. Bake:
Bake in a preheated oven at 190°C (375°F) for 15–18 minutes, turning occasionally if possible, until golden brown and caramelized.
  7. Final coating:
While warm, roll in additional toppings (like cinnamon sugar, walnuts, or cocoa).

🇭🇺 Enjoy it warm!

Kürtőskalács is crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and wonderfully aromatic. Perfect with coffee or mulled wine!

Let me know if you’d like a no-yeast version or a grilled version, too!
