- Mash the Base:
In a bowl, mash the cottage cheese with a fork until creamy (or use a food processor for a smoother texture). - Add Flavor:
Stir in the sour cream, paprika, caraway seeds, mustard (if using), and finely chopped onion. - Season:
Add salt and pepper to taste. Mix everything thoroughly until well combined. - Chill (Optional):
Let it sit in the fridge for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors meld (but you can serve it immediately too!). - Serve:
Garnish with fresh herbs if desired. Serve with rye bread, crusty rolls, crackers, or sliced veggies like cucumbers, peppers, and radishes.
🇭🇺 Traditional Tip:
If you can find “túró” (Hungarian-style curd cheese), use it instead of cottage cheese for the most authentic flavor.
