🐖 Pörkölt – Hungarian Pork Stew
Ingredients
- 2–3 tbsp lard (or sunflower oil)
- 2 large onions, finely chopped
- 2 lbs (900 g) pork (shoulder or leg), cut into 1½-inch cubes
- 2–3 tbsp sweet Hungarian paprika
- 1 tomato, peeled & chopped (or ½ cup canned diced tomatoes)
- 1–2 Hungarian wax peppers or 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 2–3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1½ cups water or stock (as needed)
- Salt & pepper to taste
Optional extras for richer flavor:
- 1 tsp caraway seeds (traditional in many households)
- 1 small hot chili pepper (if you like a bit of heat)
