🐖 Pörkölt – Hungarian Pork Stew

Ingredients

  • 2–3 tbsp lard (or sunflower oil)
  • 2 large onions, finely chopped
  • 2 lbs (900 g) pork (shoulder or leg), cut into 1½-inch cubes
  • 2–3 tbsp sweet Hungarian paprika
  • 1 tomato, peeled & chopped (or ½ cup canned diced tomatoes)
  • 1–2 Hungarian wax peppers or 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 2–3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1½ cups water or stock (as needed)
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Optional extras for richer flavor:

  • 1 tsp caraway seeds (traditional in many households)
  • 1 small hot chili pepper (if you like a bit of heat)
