🌶️🥬 Hungarian Stuffed Peppers or Cabbage

(Töltött paprika vagy töltött káposzta)

Description:
Tender peppers or cabbage leaves stuffed with a savory mix of ground meat and rice, simmered in a tangy tomato-based sauce. A true Hungarian classic, often served with sour cream and crusty bread.


🛒 Ingredients: (Serves 4–6)

For the Stuffing:

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground pork or beef (or a mix)
  • ¾ cup uncooked rice
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp sweet Hungarian paprika
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Vegetables:

  • 6–8 medium bell peppers (for töltött paprika)
    or
  • 1 head of cabbage or 12–14 leaves of soured cabbage (for töltött káposzta)

For the Sauce:

  • 2 tbsp oil or lard
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 tbsp sweet paprika
  • 3 cups tomato juice or tomato purée + water
  • 1 tsp sugar (optional, to cut acidity)
  • Salt to taste
