🍲 Pörkölt – Hungarian Stew

Description:
A deeply flavorful stew made with lots of onions, paprika, and your choice of meat (beef, pork, chicken, or even wild game). The onions break down into a rich, thick sauce. Traditionally served with nokedli (Hungarian dumplings) or pasta.


🛒 Ingredients: (Serves 4–6)

  • 2 tbsp lard or oil
  • 2 large onions, finely chopped
  • 2 lbs (900g) meat (beef chuck, pork shoulder, chicken thighs – boneless, cut into chunks)
  • 2–3 tbsp Hungarian sweet paprika
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 tomato, chopped (or ½ cup canned)
  • Salt & black pepper to taste
  • Optional: hot paprika or chili flakes for heat
  • Water or beef broth, as needed (about 1½ to 2 cups)
