
(Töltött paprika vagy töltött káposzta)
Description:
Tender peppers or cabbage leaves stuffed with a savory mix of ground meat and rice, simmered in a tangy tomato-based sauce. A true Hungarian classic, often served with sour cream and crusty bread.
🛒 Ingredients: (Serves 4–6)
For the Stuffing:
- 1 lb (450 g) ground pork or beef (or a mix)
- ¾ cup uncooked rice
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp sweet Hungarian paprika
- Salt & pepper to taste
Vegetables:
- 6–8 medium bell peppers (for töltött paprika)
or - 1 head of cabbage or 12–14 leaves of soured cabbage (for töltött káposzta)
For the Sauce:
- 2 tbsp oil or lard
- 2 tbsp flour
- 2 tbsp sweet paprika
- 3 cups tomato juice or tomato purée + water
- 1 tsp sugar (optional, to cut acidity)
- Salt to taste
